Rabat- Combating corruption is among the main challenges facing the Moroccan society in its aspiration for more openness and transparency, President of the Morocco’s anti-corruption authority (ICPC) Abdesslam Aboudrar said.

In an interview with MAP on the occasion of the national anti-corruption Day celebrated on Tuesday, Aboudrar highlighted the steadfast efforts to fight corruption since the creation of the ICPC in 2007.

Aboudrar pointed out to a range of measures taken to curb corruption including the law protecting testimonies and whistleblowers, the measures regulating the relationship between the citizen and the administration and the national strategy to combat corruption.

The main task of the ICPC is to prevent corruption through implementing a policy that incorporates awareness raising in cooperation with administrations and other watchdog organisations at the national and international levels, Aboudrar said.

Aboudrar noted that the National Authority for Probity, that will replace the ICPC by virtue of the 2011 constitution, will have self-referral and pre-judicial investigation prerogatives and will be independent vis-à-vis other powers.
