Rabat - An Indian gangster was extradited to India from Morocco last week to face trial in 44 criminal cases, including extortion and the killing of a businessman.
Bannanje Raja, 47, was arrested in Morocco on the basis of an Interpol Red Corner Notice for multiple crimes in India.
The Karanataka's mafia leader was detained in Casablanca on February 12, 2015. A special police unit from India had travelled to Morocco earlier this month for the gangster's extradition.
He was earlier arrested in Dubai in 2009, but the extradition process failed.
This time, the Indian police translated thousands of pages of documents into French to facilitate his extradition, according to the Indian Express.
Raja fled India 18 years ago. He had been hiding in Morocco under the fake identity of Kumara Raja Hemanth Hege.
As many as 20 cases against Raja pertain to crimes committed while hiding abroad.
