Casablanca - The David Bloch Gallery in Marrakech, founded in 2011, brings together several art exhibitions for the public to view, analyze and enjoy.
Sensitive Eyes - From September 11 to October 19
With the title “Sensitive Eyes,” a new exhibition at the David Block Gallery in Marrakech is displaying artwork on canvas and paper, as well as individual and collective art installations. While the artwork is mostly abstract, its optical and kinetic creations make the viewer an active participant in the art. In addition, with the different effects of movement, light, and balance, optical art explores the dynamics of the vision and the reliability of the eyes.
Further, it plays with illusions and perceptions so as to place the viewer at the core of a new sensory experience, between pleasure and vertigo. These visual highlights, challenging sensitivity, are characteristic features of the artists’ artworks gathered by the David Bloch Gallery for this new one-of-a-kind exhibition. The line-up includes international references such as French artist Sebastien Preschoux, or Morran Ben Lahcen, now a key essential artist in Morocco’s contemporary art history. Equally important to note, the opening will take place on September 11 at from 7:00 pm, in the presence of the artists Lx One, Swiz, Sébastien Preschoux, and Morran Ben Lahcen.
Presentation of the new resident artist Swiz
Swiz, a French artist born in 1983, started out by practicing graffiti, with a marked taste for urban no man's land. As a young man, Swiz developed a passion for art, especially street art and graffiti. The combination of visualizing language with varieties of forms, colors, and senses fascinated him. He currently lives and works in Paris. One of his main inspirations was the Cubist artists who broke up objects and reassembled them in an abstract form. Swiz adopts deconstructed aesthetics in his graffiti, with a preference for complex, intricate design. Swiz always maintains a layout in his artwork. Due to his structure and approach, the viewer is offered with the opportunity to wander and uncover new visual horizons that include messages and emotions.
Presentation of the future exhibition of Mist- October 23 to November 22
Using spray cans and energy, French artist Mist has evolved from his first tag in the late 1980s to the "Top 5 worldwide" of contemporary urban artists, along post-graffiti legendary figures such as "Futura." In the 1990s, Mist was already recognized by his peers as one of the best in "wild style" graffiti in Europe. Moreover, Mist develops a style freed from graffiti letter construction and shapes, to evolve towards abstraction while conserving a genuine dynamism and spontaneity. His abstract composition, combining urban and contemporary art, makes his masterpieces unique and attractive. His work is known for its abstract composition, combining urban and contemporary art.
End-of-year exhibition ft. Vincent Abadie Hafez and Carlos Mare - December 2015
The two resident artists, Carlos Mare and Vincent Abadie Hafez, will be decorating the David Bloch gallery as the final exhibition of 2015. Carlos Mare is a graffiti pathfinder, a member of the golden age of subway graffiti (1975–1985), a painter, sculptor, US cultural ambassador, and a reference in urban art. He has consistently brought innovation to the genre’s aesthetic and vocabulary. During his last visit in Morocco a year and a half ago, Carlos Mare was impressed by the cosmopolitan work of young French artist Vincent Abadie Hafez. Vincent Abadie Hafez has already signed two solo shows at the David Bloch Gallery. Together, Carlos Mare and Vincent Abadie Hafez will combine forces to create an unprecedented visual language in urban art based on each of their skills.
