Brussels - Moroccan minister of foreign affairs and cooperation, Salaheddine Mezouar called on Sunday Moroccan ambassadors in the European Union countries to be more active and take initiatives in order to take on challenges associated with international mutations.
Challenges associated with tension spots in the world, particularly in the Sahel region, Africa's development and growth stakes and, mostly requirements of the Moroccan Sahara issue, need an active and entrepreneurial diplomacy, Mezouar told MAP office in Brussels.
He stressed that the Moroccan diplomacy also need to adjust to new elements that shape the public opinion, namely the civil society, parliaments and social networks, adding that the economic dimension is another axis of diplomatic action.
"In our approach vis-à-vis the European Union, it is essential to be promote the economic dimension and its relation with Africa, given Morocco's status as a regional hub", said Mezouar who stressed the need for thinking over future orientations and priorities of the Moroccan diplomacy in order to be in tune with the vision outlined by King Mohammed VI in his message to the first conference of ambassadors.
The meeting between the foreign ministers and Moroccan ambassadors was also an opportunity to assess progress in partnership between the European Union and Morocco, priorities for 2014 and future challenges and stakes of the advanced status enjoyed by Morocco in its relations with the EU.
