Rabat - Moroccan telephone operator Wana is competing with the Vietnamese Viette Group, the Swiss YooMee group, and the Libyan GreenN to gain a license to start operating in Ivory Cost.

After Maroc Telecom, the third national operator Wana, owned by the Royal Holding SNI (Société Nationale d'Investissement), is trying to become dominant in Sub-Saharan Africa. It is competing to gain a license in Ivory Cost, according to Jeune Afrique magazine.

Ivory Cost has launched tender for a fourth license, alongside Orange, MTN, and Moov.

Wana explained that taking part in this tender marks the start of the company’s interest for the African continent, according to Telquel.ma.

“Responding to this call of expression of interest shows our willingness to invest in Africa. It also means that we are quite developed in Morocco and that we are able to invest in Africa,” the group’s manager of public relations Lamia Amsaguine said according to Telquel.ma.

The Moroccan operator "will not hesitate to appear in other countries on the continent when offers are interesting,“ she added.

The Ivorian telecommunications regulatory authority is due to provide a list of three names retained after the presidential election.
