The conference on taxation, the celebration of Labor Day, and the fight against the phenomenon of ghost workers are among the issues that dominated the editorials of Moroccan dailies on Thursday.
Under the title "away from the demagoguery" "Aujourd'hui le Maroc" writes that "during the two-day conference on taxation, the government and business leaders managed to sit together and genuinely discuss the state of our legal arsenal vis-à-vis taxes," adding that "reforming our tax system goes beyond the mere discussion among experts and specialists. It is an important political and social gesture," says the columnist, noting that "it is an act which must first be backed by a vision and a strategy."
With regard to the celebration of Labor day, "L' Economiste", states that "this year's celebration reminded us of the good old days with so many people participating in the various marches throughout the country," adding that "politically, there is no such precedent in Morocco: a majority party in government at the front of a march of its own union."
For its part, "Annahar Al Maghribia" writes that the SG and the Istiqlal party and leader UGTM Hamid Chabat blamed the government led by Abdelilah Benkirane for the deterioration of the social conditions of Moroccans, and called the PJD an "authoritarian party" that monopolized decision-making without consultation or coordination with the other components of the government majority, adding that Shabbat also accused in an unprecedented meeting of his trade union on the occasion of Labor Day, the head of government of ending the social dialogue.
On another note, "Attajdid" discusses the phenomenon of "ghost" officials and writes that the decisions taken by the government against this category of employees, in the context of implementation of memo of the Head of Government concerning the unjustified absence from work, heralds a radical change in dealing with this issue.
