New York- "The Explorers Club" of New York has awarded its highest distinction to King Mohammed VI, in recognition for his "vision and leadership" in promoting exploration and discoveries, the club president Alan Nichols announced.
"It is a great honor for the Explorers Club's Board of Governors and myself to award to His Majesty the King the 'Presidential Explorers Club Benefactor", said Nichols.
King Mohammed VI becomes the second head of state, after Theodore Roosevelt to receive the reward.
The announcement was made over the week end during the annual gala dinner hosted by the famous Club of Explorers, founded in New York City in 1904 to promote the scientific exploration of land, sea, air, and space by supporting research and education in the physical, natural and biological sciences.
This distinction comes in recognition of the King Mohammed VI’s action to safeguard and promote the nomads' legacy, added Nichols in the presence of guests who viewed a documentary produced by the Club on the Moussem of Tan Tan, a festival honoring the traditions and lifestyle of this Moroccan southern city.
