RabatMorocco's election to the UN Human rights council (for the 2014-2016 mandate) is an international recognition of the importance of reforms adopted by the country, said this Tuesday Morocco's ambassador and permanent representative to the UN office in Geneva, Omar Hilale.

This is a recognition of the international community to the pertinence of the democratic reforms conducted by Morocco and for its positive and efficient role, said the diplomat who was guest to MAP's forum themed "Morocco's commitment in human rights."

This is also a defeat for Morocco's enemies who have been ceaselessly endeavoring to tarnish the Kingdom's image, he went on.

The diplomat went that the invitation extended by Moroccan officials to four UN rapporteurs for human rights to visit Morocco in the 2014-2015 period is further evidence "Morocco's commitments for human rights."

He added that Morocco's adherence to the UN special process is part of "a proactive approach on such sensitive issues as torture, arbitrary detentions and violence against women".

Hilale further explained that Morocco's experience in human rights matters is the fruit of a long process of reforms based on participation and consensus, noting that human rights promotion is an irreversible constitutional commitment.

The constitution adopted by referendum in 2011 is "a genuine charter" of human rights, he insisted.
