Stockholm - Migration should become an engine for development and northern countries, as southern ones, should think about means to enable migrants to take part in the process of economic, cultural, and social development of their respective countries, said, Thursday in Stockholm, Morocco's permanent representative to the UN, ambassador Omar Hilale.
Hilale, who was co-chairing a round table held as part of the 7th Global Forum on Migration and Development (GFMD) with Spanish secretary general of immigration at the ministry of employment and social security Maria Del Corral Tellz, stressed the importance of migrants' free movement and the need to make migration an engine for development.
Northern countries, as southern ones, should think about means likely to enable immigrants to go back to their countries of origin to participate in the process of economic, cultural, and social development of their respective countries, said the diplomat.
Hilale highlighted the growing importance of temporary and circular forms of migrants' mobility which call for an approach that takes into account all actors concerned as governments, state agencies, employers and professional associations.
