Morocco’s Medical Students Protests Against Compulsory Medical Service

Rabat - Interns and residents in medicine and students in pharmacy and dentistry staged, on Wednesday in front of the Health ministry's headquarters, a sit-in followed by a march to express their refusal of the compulsory medical service.

This protest, the second of its kind, is held at the call of the national committee for medical interns and residents (CNMIR) and the national committee for medical students (CNEM) to call for rejecting the draft bill on mandatory medical service.

The protesters gathered afterwards in front of the parliament and chanted slogans against the said draft law, calling for ameliorating physicians' working conditions.

The rally, which brought together students from seven medical schools, called also for increasing service allowance and internships positions and improving training conditions, president of the Marrakech office for medical students Charaf Ziane told MAP.
